Student product designer, Eddi Törnberg, takes a different approach on green design that showcases an innovative viewpoint. Based on Harriet Beecher Stowes' quote“Human nature is above all things lazy”, Törnberg shifts his focus from the “moralistic demands” of green design and uses modern technology to accommodate the situations of daily living. Törnberg’s philosophy is all about the efficiency of energy and with his green desk Unplugged, the idea is that nothing goes to waste.
With the intention of being used in an office environment, Unplugged utilizes three techniques to develop energy: A woven carpet with piezo elements produces energy when exposed to stress. A flowering plant that is microbial-fuel cell collecting energy from the sun. And finally (the one I have yet to get my head around), a chair that is based on the Seebeck effect, which creates energy from the difference in temperature of metals (when sat on).
