For the past two weeks, I have been working at DIFFERENT on the Summer School programme where I have gained lots of experience and insight in working in a successful agency.
I was given my very own tailored training programme where I worked in the account handling department alongside my mentors Rachael Quarmby, Lara Mitchinson and Carmel Hutchinson who were a great help to me. I was shown round the agency meeting everyone who were all very approachable and friendly when greeting me.
Throughout my time at DIFFERENT, I have learnt so much in such a small amount of time.
On my first day, I was already attending traffic meetings between the creative, design and marketing departments and attended a meeting with one of DIFFERENT's main clients Benfield Motors. This gave me an overview on how meetings were held and conducted internally and externally.
DIFFERENT summer school allowed me to engage in the various campaigns and lay hands on experience with several clients. One presentation I worked on was for Barker & Stonehouse where I had to research other companies that use customers as their 'style guru' which were mainly fashion and furniture magazines. I found this trend research extremely interesting in identifying common trends.
I was also given the opportunity to work for the client Tommee Tippee where I conducted research for their upcoming photography brief. I had to research other baby brand competitors to identify their style of photography they use and produce a PowerPoint presentation. As well as this, I performed research for St.David's campaign where I had to find relevant model shots for the designer to drop into a visual.
Throughout these two weeks, I have learnt and understood how to use Synergist through producing briefs for various clients. I learnt how to brief in and dispatch amends from clients including L'Oreal and NE1 as well as creating new jobs on Synergist.
Although at first, it took getting used to working 9-5, it has been such an enjoyable and fun experience for the summer. Working at DIFFERENT has opened up my eyes to how important communication is when liaising with clients to establish a strong, lasting relationship with them. What I have enjoyed most about my time at DIFFERENT is the buzzing, fun environment from the lively staff.
Overall, I have worked with some amazing, bright people who have made my experience at DIFFERENT very enjoyable and worthwhile. I would definitely recommend DIFFERENT Summer School to those who want to experience a taste of working in a buzzing agency! Thanks to Yousaf Khalid for giving me this opportunity and everyone at DIFFERENT for making my placement fantastic!
